Jasper National Park in Canada is a UNESCO world heritage site with a population of 5000 in the town of Jasper
Over 25.000 people were evacuated from the town and surrounding areas during the 2024 fires. About 2000 people were displaced and lacked a home or place to return back to as a result of it. The fires and disruption was substantial. Part of the town lost their home. 385 structures were destroyed in the town site. Of those, many were homes, the town estimates 800 housing units were lost. For the community the aftermath and rebuilding will involve long-term recovery. The estimated insurance claims reached about $880 million CAD, making this one of Canada’s costliest natural disasters in recent history.
